A brief history of the park:

Central Park is a public park located in the heart of Manhattan, New York City. It was first proposed in 1853 by Frederick Law Olmsted and Calvert Vaux, who won a design competition to create the park. Construction began in 1857 and the park was officially opened to the public in 1858.

The park was built on a 778-acre tract of land that was previously used for farming, grazing and as a reservoir. It was designed to provide a green oasis for city residents, with a mix of natural landscapes and man-made features such as lakes, walking paths, and playgrounds.

Over the years, Central Park has played host to many famous events and happenings. Some of the most notable include:

• The Central Park Zoo, which opened in the 1870s and is one of the oldest zoos in the United States.
• The Central Park Mall, a formal promenade lined with American elm trees that was built in the 1850s.
